    <description>PALS is offering face-to-face Programapedia training to anyone interested.  The following dates and locations have been scheduled:&lt;br&gt;
Wednesday, October 1, 10-12:00 at the Shorewood Service Center (maximum of 8 people), hands-on&lt;br&gt;Tuesday, October 7, 9:30-11:30 at the Coal Valley Service Center (maximum of 8 people), hands-on;&lt;br&gt;Thursday, October 16, 10-12 at the Rockford Service Center (maximum of 8 people), hands-on;&lt;br&gt;Thursday, October 16, 1-3:00 at the Rockford Service Center, demonstration only, not hand-on.&lt;br&gt;To register for any of these training sessions, you must register in &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.codenamepelican.com/?LibSys=PALS&quot;&gt;L2&lt;a&gt;.     <title>Good Times=Good Books</title>

    <description>Noted speaker and educator, Mary Bigler, will introduce quality literature and emphasize the importance of reading to and with children. She will give ideas for engaging students with joke books, picture books, poetry and non-fiction. Mary will demonstrate how to utilize various genres to reinforce skills and foster the joy and wonder of reading. This workshop is for librarians who serve preK-12th grade students.

The workshop will be held at Starved Rock State Park Lodge in Utica on Friday, Oct. 10th from 9:30-3:00. The cost is $30. Carpools are available from the three service centers-- Coal Valley, Rockford, and Shorewood. Join Susan M. Dailey back to PALS with her new workshop! During the morning, Susan will share materials from her new book _Sing a Song of Storytime_. The value of music in preschool programs ranges from providing a background mood to singing a story. This session isn't just for the musically talented! The afternoon will feature storytelling. Be prepared to participate as Susan shares several stories using various techniques. Included will be folktales, picture books, and original stories. 

The workshop will be held at the Mendota Civic Center, 1901 Tom Merwin Dr. in Mendota. See www.mendotaciviccenter.com for directions. The workshop will run from 9:30-3:30 and the cost is $30.    I just received the letter saying that our LSTA grant &quot;Keeping the Door Open for Tweens and Teens&quot; for $4,500 has been awarded!  This will provide us the opportunity to bring in full day training through YALSA (the Young Adult Librarians' division of ALA)on how to better serve 6th-12th graders in the school and public library.
